Optimisation of $5 million solar and battery system for large scale poultry farm
July 2020
Dematec’s Industrial IoT platform was a key component to achieving exceptional energy performance goals for the Riverlands Free Range Poultry complex.
The facility operates on renewable energy about 65 percent of the time (the equivalent of 650 homes), reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 970 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
The solution was commissioned by AAM Investment Group (AAMIG) to deliver optimal returns on $5 million capital cost for solar and the largest energy storage battery installation for a farm in Australia. Commercial benefits are delivered by automatically managing the operation of the on-site energy assets to optimise the real time energy cost (based on the AEMO market price) while maintaining electricity supply to the chicken sheds.
As a flow on, this project will have the effect of AAMIG rolling out this technology across other farms and demonstrating the value of renewable energy initiatives to other large scale agribusinesses.
